Where it hurts, what set it off, and what you have already tried. Bring any imaging or notes from another doctor.
A hands-on exam of the hand, wrist and nerves. X-rays are taken in our Southlake office and you review them with Dr. Knight minutes later, in the same visit. If the exam points to something an X-ray will not show, Dr. Knight will arrange the right test and tell you where it is done.
A clear diagnosis and a written plan that starts with the least invasive option that fits your case, and the next appointment set before you go.
Most of these conditions are treated in steps, and many settle before surgery is on the table.
Rest what is irritated, hold the joint where it needs to be, and change the movement that keeps re-aggravating it. Hand therapy is added where it helps.
Where the problem is inflammation around a tendon, a nerve or a joint, a corticosteroid injection can settle it down. How well you respond also helps confirm what we are treating.
Some things do need an operation: an unstable fracture, a nerve under sustained pressure, a tendon that will not release, a joint that has worn out. Surgery is done at Legent Hospital in Plano.
We start with the least invasive option that fits your case. If an operation is the right answer, Dr. Knight will tell you what it does and what recovery looks like.

Hands, wrists and elbows. That includes nerve compression such as carpal tunnel and cubital tunnel, tendon problems such as trigger finger, fractures of the fingers, hand and wrist, arthritis at the base of the thumb, ganglion cysts, ligament and cartilage injuries, and joint replacement in the hand. It does not include shoulders, knees, backs or feet, because we do not treat them.
We take most major plans, including Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas, Aetna, Cigna, Humana, United Healthcare, Medicare and Medicare Advantage, Tricare and workers' compensation. Plans change, so call (817) 382-6789 with your card and we will verify your benefits before your visit.
